Twitter

Twitter is a service for the exchange of brief messages, commonly called tweets, between users. There are a number of ways to integrate WordPress.com and Twitter including:

  1. Taking content from WordPress.com and publishing it as a single tweet on Twitter.
  2. Taking an entire post from WordPress.com and publishing it in its entirety as a Twitter thread, also known as a tweetstorm.
  3. Embedding individual tweets on your website.
  4. Pulling all of the content from single tweets or entire Twitter threads, called tweetstorms, and publishing to your website with or without additional content around the content.

Publicize to Twitter

Publicizing your posts to Twitter is an excellent way to get more traffic on your blog by automatically tweeting a link to each new post you write.

To enable this feature, go to My Sites → Tools → Marketing and click on the Connectionstab. Then, click the Connect button next to Twitter. You’ll be taken to Twitter where you’ll be asked to approve the connection between your WordPress.com site and your Twitter account. Click Allow.

When you post to Twitter, you can choose to either share a post to your Twitter account in the form of a single tweet or share your entire blog post, along with all of its media, in the form of a Twitter thread.

If you wish to disable sharing, uncheck your Twitter handle before clicking Publish.

Embed a Tweet

Use the Twitter block to embed a tweet onto any page or post of your site like so:

Pull Content from Single Tweets or Tweetstorms

You can also use the Twitter block to “unroll” content from a single tweet or Twitter thread, also known as a tweetstorm. The text and media will be pulled into your page or post in draft form. After that, you can remove or add as much content in and around it as you’d like, especially since WordPress.com does not have any character limits.

Add a Twitter Timeline Widget

Twitter Help Center

You can display your latest tweets in your site’s sidebar using the Twitter Timeline widget.

  • Go to My Sites → Appearance → Customize and click on Widgets.
  • Select the widget area where you’d like the timeline to appear (usually sidebar or footer with most themes.)
  • Look for the Twitter Timeline widget and click it to add it.
  • Add your username to display the correct timeline.

Add a Twitter Sharing Button

You can add a Twitter sharing button to your posts or pages. This will allow visitors to your site to share a link to the post or page as a tweet from their account.

Go to My Sites → Tools → Marketing → Sharing Buttons. Click on Edit Sharing Buttons and enable the sharing options you want, including Twitter.

Troubleshooting

Twitter Support Uk

If you share your site to Twitter, but your site icon and title don’t appear in your tweets, you can enter your URL into Twitter’s validator tool: https://cards-dev.twitter.com/validator

Once you do, click the Preview Card button, and that should make your tweets display correctly.
