Super Mario 3D World is a platform game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U in November 2013. It is the sixth original 3D platform game in the Super Mario series, the sequel to the 2011 Nintendo 3DS game Super Mario 3D Land.The game follows Mario and friends attempting to rescue fairy-like creatures called Sprixies from Bowser, who invades the realm known as the Sprixie Kingdom. You may have see dotted-line 'blocks' throughout the game. These 'blocks' have no use in the beginning. However, if you activate a Switch Palace of the corresponding color, the dotted-line 'blocks' will become solid exclamation blocks, allowing you to use them. Switch Palaces can only be completed once.
You can find the four Switch Palaces in the following worlds:
- Yellow Switch Palace (Yoshi's Island)
- Green Switch Palace (Donut Plains)
- Red Switch Palace (Vanilla Dome)
- Blue Switch Palace (Forest of Illusion)
The yellow exclamation blocks will provide Super Mushrooms, the green blocks will provide Cape Feathers, and the red and blue blocks only act as barriers.

UPDATE - Sep 15, 2019 - Super NES games (including Super Mario World) are now available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers after the September 2019 Nintendo Direct!
Simply install the SNES games through the Nintendo eShop and you can start playing! There is even a rewind feature and save states to make your journey to 96 exits a little easier.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Since Nintendo Switch Online became a paid add-on, it has featured a rotating set of NES classics for subscribers to play. As of now, we haven't seen any Super NES games come out, there has been speculation, rumours and grumbling from time to time, but as of now we still have not seen SNES games on the Nintendo Switch.
If Super NES games were to come to the Switch, it would be another throwback to a great retro era - remember the SNES Classic that came out in 2017? It was tough to find in stores for nearly a year before it got discontinued.
Let's take a look at Super Mario World, the launch game for the SNES, and to this day, still one of the most iconic Super Mario games ever produced. (Check out SM128C's retro review of Super Mario World)
There's no technical reason we can't see SNES games be emulated on the Switch, but if SNES games ever come, it's a virtual certainty that we will see Super Mario World be part of the package.
Could we possibly see an enhanced multiplayer mode beyond the primitive turn-taking between Mario and Luigi through Dinosaur Land? It will be a definite joy to be able to play Super Mario World online with your friends!
Super Mario World Switch
It's probably unlikely that Nintendo will crack open the source code and make an upgraded multiplayer mode for Super Mario World, but there can be some possibilities.
A co-op adventure mode with both Mario and Luigi on screen at the same time (in the New Super Mario Bros style) would be a pleasure, but this would probably require a complicated rebuild of the game. It would be challenging to re-work the original stages to support this kind of adventure. Also, would the SNES emulation be able to handle this kind of action?
Maybe it's more realistic to have a simpler multiplayer enhancement. How about a Coin Battle challenge with a 1P Mario and 2P Luigi? We've seen this in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U where the players dash through a level trying to get the most coins to win.
Super Mario Bros For Switch
The beauty of such an enhancement is that they can build additional SMW-style courses (like we have seen in Super Mario Maker) specifically for a coin battle mode. These stages would be a separate addition, and it wouldn't affect the integrity of the original game - which itself was a masterpiece.
Another idea, how about a scavenger hunt through some stages? First one to find the item wins the challenge. Given that SMW is the first game Yoshi appeared in, how about a Yoshi egg hunt? It would be very fitting!
Super Mario World is one of the games that Nintendo has released over and over again, it would definitely be no surprise to see it come to the Nintendo Switch through the Nintendo Switch Online service. Unfortunately as of now, we don't know if or when Super Mario World will be released for the Nintendo Switch, so for now we'll just have to stick with the SNES Classic or the Virtual Console on the Wii and Wii U consoles - if you have one.
